Carl Erskine was a talented pitcher who spent his entire Major League Baseball career with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers from 1948 to 1959. He was a key part of the Dodgers' success, helping them win five National League pennants and the 1955 World Series. Erskine was known for his overhand curveball and pitched two no-hitters during the 1950s. His best season came in 1953 when he won 20 games and set a World Series record with 14 strikeouts in a single game. He was an All-Star in 1954 and finished his career with a 122–78 win-loss record, a 4.00 ERA, and 981 strikeouts. Beyond baseball, Erskine was deeply involved in charitable work, particularly with the Special Olympics, inspired by his son Jimmy, who was born with Down syndrome. He was also a business executive and an author. In 2023, he received the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame
