Right Field - Yankees
1948-1961

Hank Bauer was a tough, hard-nosed right fielder and manager in Major League Baseball. He played for the New York Yankees (1948–1959) and Kansas City Athletics (1960–1961), winning eight World Series titles as a player. He later managed the Baltimore Orioles, leading them to their first-ever World Series championship in 1966.

Before his baseball career, Bauer served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, earning two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts for his bravery in combat. He was known for his gritty playing style, famously hitting safely in 17 consecutive World Series games, a record at the time.

His career stats include a .277 batting average, 164 home runs, and 703 RBIs. Bauer was also a three-time All-Star and was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame. His leadership and resilience made him a respected figure both on and off the field

Big D Story by Darryl Rhoades

Me, Tommy Lasorda & Brendan O'Brien

As a lifelong baseball fan, I've always been fascinated by the game's history. I've been a traveling entertainer for over 5 decades and in my travels across the country I would seek out every opportunity to meet some of my heroes such as Buck Leonard, Hank Bauer, Moose Skowron. I have stayed in communitcation with legends such as Carl Erskine, Leon Day, Billy Herman, Johnny Mize and many more.

I amassed a huge collection of cards, autographed pictures, and baseballs from attending card shows and visiting players in their homes.

I still have the stories of talking with Buck Leonard and Leon Day about the Negro Leagues and hanging out with some of my boyhood heroes. Every autograph is attached to my memory of watching legends such as Aaron, Mays, Mantle, and Dimaggio sign them.

Now, the time has come for me to let it all go. Browse my site and enjoy baseball memories from way back. I hope this collection brings joy to the many fans who visit  here.
